Who We Are

The Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investments Company (ROMPCO) is a joint venture between the government of South Africa (represented by the South African Gas Development Company (iGas)), the government of Mozambique (represented by Companhia Moçambicana de Gasoduto (CMG)), and Sasol. ROMPCO was formed to transport natural gas from Mozambique’s Pande and Temane gas fields to markets in both Mozambique and South Africa,
for the economic benefit of the region.

Our Vision

To be the leading Southern African gas transmission and infrastructure company that transforms the communities we operate in and develops the energy industry through the provision of sustainable gas supply and innovative solutions to our markets.

Our Mission

ROMPCO’s mission is to maximize stakeholder value through the expansion of its footprint in a manner that promotes reliable, safe, and environmentally responsible operations. ROMPCO aims to contribute to a balanced energy economy, gas infrastructure and capabilities development, while being a responsible corporate citizen.

It is a safe, reliable, and efficient provider of gas transmission pipeline capacity within Southern Africa.

When the journey of ROMPCO started in 2000, the government of Mozambique and South Africa entered into a Cross Border Agreement to facilitate trade in natural gas between the two countries. This agreement led to the Government of Mozambique authorizing ROMPCO to construct, own and operate the Mozambique-Secunda Pipeline (MSP) for the transportation of natural gas from the Central Processing Facility in Mozambique to gas markets in Mozambique and South Africa.

The MSP gas network includes Loopline 1, Loopline 2 and Komatipoort Compressor Station as a source of supply of gas to several customers in different industries within Mozambique to South Africa. The Komatipoort Compressor Station has been declared as a National Key Point. Its purpose is to boost the pressure of natural gas transported from Temane via Mozambique-Secunda Pipeline. The continuous and undisrupted operation of the compressor station remains key for the purposes of keeping economic activities and customers active to fulfil their obligations and contributions to the Mozambican and South African gas markets.

To address Mozambique’s expanding energy needs, ROMPCO has embarked on programmes to increase capacity and grow our in-country operations. In 2015 ROMPCO invested money to complete a 128km loop line (named Loop Line 1) to increase in-country pipeline capacity and market development, and to help address the growing demand for natural gas in the region. As a company we continuously strive to enable both the Mozambican and South African gas market, gas monetization across the two countries and to expand the gas network in line with the growing regional market demands.
